Here another one of my 'wild water shots'.
Taken at Island Bay, a while ago, and yes, the sea was quite loud that day... If you are interested in my artwork, please email me here: photos@wernerkaffl.com Last Sunday, some rough sea on the south coast around sunset, few clouds, all gold tinted and sunrays in sea spray... Perfect to grab the gear and shoot.
When I arrived in Houghton Bay, I discovered I wasn't the only one having that idea - I didn't expect to anyway. Actually, it was some good opportunity to get some street-style photography in a very different environment. I was amused by the number of people using their mobile phones though. Not just to take photos, but to txt etc, rather than watching their surroundings. A bit sad, I think. Personally, I'm out there for photos, right, but I usually pack the camera away after my shots and enjoy the view without a camera in between. First lines of CCR's famous song. Though 'good' and 'bad' are pure human concepts, they don't apply to anything there is in nature in our universe. The moon just 'is'. And it's beautiful (also a human concept...) These were taken from Brooklyn, Wellington, Friday 29/01/2021. The first one at 09.11 PM, the second one some 20 minutes later. Though the first one looks like early evening, it's actually dark already. Still light enough to capture the colors in the landscape, but dark enough for the city lights coming on, and even illuminating the clouds from below. The second one was fully dark, the moon still rising and just breaking through the clouds. The low angle of the moon causing orange light (same effect as with sunrise/set). I have to say, it was really windy, and my camera and tripod were blown off balance several times. It looks much more scary than it actually was, just a matter of perspective...

After half a day of work, doctors appointment, lab and a coffee, I decided to have a look at this storm the news is talking about. Well, the waves were far from 10 meters, maybe 2-3 meters a, but the sea looked like it was boiling, up Kapiti (Paekakariki). And the light was just awesome. If you are interested in my artwork, please email me here: photos@wernerkaffl.com This Summer is giving us some awesome sights. Personally, I prefer temperatures a bit mild, not such a fan of blazing sunshine. But Welly gives everyone what they want, several times a day!

My last post on here showed some nice summer colors, local plant life on a stretch of some 100 meters. The following images have been taken just before, on top of that hill I walked up to. A place called Fort Ballance. It's a pretty cool spot for photographers. Personally I like the graffiti stuff up there - I know, not all might agree though. Still, I just capture what's there. And yes, those images are a bit exaggerated, trying to catch the mood of the place. If you are interested in my artwork, please email me here: photos@wernerkaffl.com The new year started, and first thing, people complaining. About weather, Covid, no specific reason at all or very specific reasons, Trump, 'personal opinion vs facts', etc. etc. etc.
Well, a date change is just that, a date change. It doesn't change things around you. I believe it's much more about perception, and we un-learned actually perceiving our surroundings. Well, of course, how can we see anything if we keep looking on our mobile screens... So here some stuff for this screen of yours, as seen when looking beyond any phone. In fact seen without the camera and then only caught on camera on my way back. I took those photos on a stretch of some 100 meters of footpath, close to Scorching Bay, Miramar, Wellington, on an actual moody grey 2nd of January 2021. I bet, if you turned off your phone and walk some 100 meters anywhere, you might be surprised what you find... Happy 2021 to you! I'm not sure if I'll go to shoot those fireworks tonight, not really feeling like climbing around those hills in the middle of night on my own. Have some great parties and a good start into 2021! I think this was one of my favorite 2020 images. Summing up a big time frame of this challenging year. Last night I was lucky to get such an amazing light show at this place! This is a panorama of 11 images. If you are interested in my artwork, please email me here: photos@wernerkaffl.com Still my favorite, dramatic wild ocean...
If you are interested in my artwork, please email me here: photos@wernerkaffl.com The title relates to the impression of layers in this image. The close part is out of focus, the wave in the back is in focus, the sky out of focus again. The effect is a shallow depth of field and this adds a very strong spacious effect in this image!
