Another dramatic south coast image, close to Island Bay, Wellington. You might guess, I got my big lens back!

Another stunning water shot, a couple of weeks back, close to Owhiro Bay, Wellington.
If you are interested in my artwork, please email me: photos@wernerkaffl.com This is a long exposure panorama image, Sunset near Island Bay, Wellington.
The format is unusual for a panorama, vertical. It's stitched from two images, stacked above each others, rather than beside each others like in a classic panorama. If you are interested in my artwork, please email me: photos@wernerkaffl.com Oriental Bay, Wellington.
Those are some of my favorite photos of this fountain. And yes, those are the real colors. Due to some rain clouds, you can see the rain hitting the water in image 1 and 2, the color changed from golden to red and ended up all purple, all within some 30 minutes. The first two are panoramas, the purple one is a single shot. If you are interested in my artwork, please email me: photos@wernerkaffl.com I know, this one is't really recent, and it's not as crisp as some of my other ocean shots. But I really liked the dynamics and contrast in this image, as well as the 'feel' of actual motion!

We had some awesome people and baroque style costumes - and lots of fun! Garments provided by CK Filmdesign Makeup by Nicola Robinson Hair by Wei Jiang Models: Kimre, Kelly, Jordan Studio 11 Floors, Shonty and Jared Video by Jun I didn't have a particular appointment, just shot from the side-lines (we know each others quite a while). That's why I didn't use any studio lights, this is all without artificial light sources! Fitting our lockdown level 1, I got out and about, looking for some nice lighting and objects to capture, Wellington Waterfront.
These were taken on Friday, around 8:30 AM... If you are interested in my artwork, please let me know via email: photos@wernerkaffl.com Here some of my favorite tree shots.
The first one a bit creepy, the second one... well, I'd say connected... or disconnected, depends on your viewpoint! If you are interested in my artwork, please let me know via email: photos@wernerkaffl.com Supporting local!
Saturday 06/06/2020, Wellington, Cuba Street. We repurposed the car park in front of Cuba Barbers for a couple of hours. 'Picnics in Parks' came with tables, chairs and bicycles, having food and drinks together, getting hair cuts and beard trims, supporting local businesses like: Olive Midnight Espresso Burgerfuel Photos by Werner Kaffl 'Gone wrong' because there wasn't many stars visible out there!
This was an interesting night, for many reasons. So, this is Wainuiomata Coast, close to Wellington. I was out some night, to shoot the milkyway, because it's a pretty cool area for that. When I finally arrived, sometime around midnight, there was a full Moon out, top center right (well, bad planning). There were also clouds (Wellington weather, changing at every hill). The light above the hill in the first image is actually Wellington's city lights (ok, there IS actual light pollution in that area). The over all lighting comes entirely from the Moon, in both pictures, remember this was around midnight. In fact, I didn't even need a torch to set up camera and tripod - It was like a badly overcast early evening, but didn't feel like midnight at all! I thought I'll shoot anyway. I used a 15mm Sigma diagonal fisheye lens for my shots, which covers some 175 degrees diagonally (no internal compensation). Importing such an image into Lightroom etc, would cause the software to correct the distortion and crop the image to a normal 3 by 2 ratio - which looked rather boring in this image. I 'told' Lightroom, just for fun, to correct the distortion, but NOT to crop it, resulting in these 2 panoramas. This effect seems to be drawing the onlooker in. The exposure time was 30 seconds, on ISO 100, F2.8, on a Canon 6d mark 1, for both images. Personally I like the first one best, it looks more dramatic. But the second one shows the sheer amount of light coming from the Moon. If you are interested in my artwork, please let me know via email: photos@wernerkaffl.com The Milkyway, our own galaxy, rising in the east in this image, seen from Breaker Bay, Wellington. Unlike the majority of Milkyway images, this one shows it as a straight band, crossing the frame diagonally and showing the galaxy center in the middle.
This straight perspective is actually the correct one. Our own Solar System is located on the outskirts of our galaxy, which is shaped like a spiral, rather flat. When we look at the it from our perspective, towards its center, then it's pretty much like looking at a plate from one side - hence it looks like a straight band. The gorgeous arc-shaped Milkyway images you see a lot, are indeed spectacular, but the arc shape is due to the way a camera sees it. The arc is a result of distortion. I did create some of these too, and will post them on here soon. This is also a panorama. A vertical panorama of 5 individual images, to be exact. Conditions in this night were not perfect, there were some clouds moving around. Interesting is their movement though. I can see 4 different directions, which means, those clouds were on different atmospheric altitudes, each with its own wind direction and speed. This can, of course, be printed, but will need o be custom sized due to its panorama format. If you are interested in my artwork, please let me know via email: photos@wernerkaffl.com As promised in my last post, here the full panorama. My last image showed just the center of this, highlighting the sun flares. Unfortunately these flares are partly lost in the panorama, due to the stitching process.
Both are pretty epic though, at least in my view :-) This is a panorama of 11 individual images, shot in one horizontal row. If you are interested in my artwork, please let me know via email: photos@wernerkaffl.com |
