... Or at least I've been told those images look a bit that way.
This is Wellington South Coast, around sunset, a while ago, and I was playing with different settings and lenses. Those images are of course available as prints, please contact me if you're interested.

A walk through Wellington's Botanic Gardens...
I browsed my archives, and stumbled over those photos, thought I'd play with them for a bit and see what I come up with. To switch them to monochrome was actually an accident - but a good one, I think. Sometimes such accidents can turn out rather well, that's why I keep my mind open and never never cease to experiment! Here another "HDR" image, Sunset, Princess Bay - Some amazing light-show in the clouds!
Of course this one is available as a print! Those images were from last weekend, when I ended up in an entirely different area than planned, and had the "wrong" lenses with me!
Well, it's less about the gear, but rather about the eye and some flexibility. If it rains, you can't take pictures of the stars, so either go home, or shift your view to something else. So I ended up with some "macro" photos, taken with a 70-300mm lens (that's a pretty decent telephoto). I had to move away from these objects, to be able to focus, but as you see, I managed. What can one learn from this? - Don't be discouraged if something doesn't turn out as planned, just change the plan... This isn't only true in photography, but also in real life! ...Not sure what my favorite is, I'm torn between the shell and that snake pool... All of those are, of course, for sale as prints, please contact me if you're interested! Playing with some camera settings. Those shots were some on 1/8 second, rather than my usual fast shutter speed - I do like the effect!
Last weekend I finally got some spare time to shoot just for fun.
Actually I planned to go to the zoo - but traffic didn't even get me near there, so I ended up beyond Wellington Airport. The weather was lovely, and I had a peaceful walk, no pressure, no people, just me and my camera. I started to do some detail shots, rocks, plants, reflections, etc. Those are the first ones I finished so far, more to come... This is one of my very first big panoramas, shot about 2-3 years ago, and re-edited, as my skills have improved since the actual shots.
It's a panorama, composed of 36 single images (in portrait orientation), stitched in two rows of 18 images each, covering roughly 180 degrees. For those interested in specs, the work-file in Photoshop is over 12 GB large, the final jpg is just short of 117 MB, a bit more than 197 Megapixel. This amount of detail means, in the original, viewed in full resolution, you can count the sand grains in the cracks between these, rocks 15 meters away. Camera settings: Canon EOS 6D M1 Sigma 24 mm F1.4 ART ISO 100 F16 1 second shutter-speed per picture, and a cheap ND filter The clouds were virtually static, so I didn't have to rush to complete the set. It looks like a storm front coming in, but it was actually rather calm that evening. Of course this one is also for sale, please contact me if you're interested in a print. Another one of my images has been featured in a photography group on Fine Art America. Again one of my storm photos - they seem to be rather popular!
Yesterday I had the pleasure to shoot the performance of my friend Hannah Fang, Sam Manzanza and many others on Africa Day in Wellington - What a day, great food, gorgeous food and awesome music...
I like the coast this time of the year - well, I actually like it all year round, but this time of yeat there are special moods, rough-ish weather and ragged landscapes, muted colors, intense light, hard contrasts etc. Sometimes challenging to photograph, but I do like challenges also...
Actually, Paekakariki, some while ago though.
There are some incredible sunsets around Kapiti Island, I really love that place! A while ago I've been up Kapiti Coast a lot. Some of these images have been posted here before, some are new, but I thought I just put them all together this time...
Another one of my Articles has been published in WPS Impact, Wellington Photographic Society.
Page 36-39, about Dynamic Range. Click on the picture and enjoy the magazine. Just added another image to my online shops.
This is available on Fine Art America (click the image) or in Art for Art's Sake for national clients. For the latter, please click HERE to see the standard options (others are available though), then contact them and me for any image of your choice, so I can supply them with the file and they can process. My shop in Art for Art's Sake is still in build up, hence it shows only a few images for reference. |
