GTC-2019 Mystery Tour

27/3/2019

Since three years I'm part of the Fashion Creative, which is quite a large group of very creative photographers, models, makeup artists, hair designers and fashion/costume designers.
Every year we have an event called GTC (Great Trentham Collaboration). Many people coming together to do some awesome photoshooting, in very professional environment, often like on some big fashion event - only, we do it for fun and to learn.
Every photographer gets a team of models, makeup artists etc. assigned to them, they develop concepts of what they would like to try and then dress up, shoot, edit...
The last two years we were shooting in Trentham, two days full of work. This year was different, only one day of work, two models per photographer and a location we didn't know before actually meeting up in Trentham - Which made it rather difficult to decide on a concept!
The only thing we knew was, there's lots of greenery!
The destination was Staglands Wildlife Reserve, and it was pretty awesome working there. Even though it was open to the public, on a warm Saturday, we managed to get our work done without colliding too much with other people... I guess they found us as interesting as the farm animals around...
Here my first photos!
Models: Sam Moredo and Hayley Awhina Deanna
MUA: Kayleigh Cotterall and Mickey Patterson
Fashion and Butterflies: Maggie Mabon

Wellington's Underbelly

25/3/2019

Actually, last Thursday, I was going out to catch a sunset on the South Coast. But out the door I realized, there's no clouds over the sea. The only cloud, rapidly turning orange, were over Wellington. So I headed down to town, aiming for the Lagoon or Chaffer's Marina. Parking was a challenge, so the clouds were turning back to grey, and the sea wasn't flat anymore. BUT, the space around Te Papa caught my eye, with it's green light between its support beams.
So I decided to stay there a while. Looking at the images I got, I think it was well worth it.
It's not all about planning and intentions. More often than not, it's about flexibility...

Purple Sunrise

20/3/2019

This is a piece of work from mid-2015, recently sold as a big print in Art for Art's Sake Wellington, my partner for national sales.
The panorama is stitched together from 63 HDR (bracketed) images in 3 rows of 21 images.
Each of these 63 HDR images is composed of 3 single photos in 3 different exposures.
This makes a total of 189 photos to create this panorama, some 85 megapixel, 43 megabyte all in all.
Why the effort? - Well, first, this shows a view angle of about 180 degrees, from City center towards the sunrise east of Lower Hutt. Second, this sort of lighting is very difficult, the city just getting the first sun rays, the bright sun in the East, and deep shadows in the foreground. Best solution to me seemed HDR bracketing, to even out the light and make it look like, for the onlooker, really standing on Mount Vic at sunrise.

Wellington Vigil for Christchurch

17/3/2019

One of many events throughout the country to show our solidarity with the victims of the Christchurch shootings in two Mosques during time of prayer.
Truly the act of an utter coward, shooting defenseless men, women and children with some military style guns.
I just got back from the Vigil in the Basin Reserve in Wellington. I'm still short of words. It was deeply touching to see us all standing together, grieving together, tears in our eyes and being strong, supporting each other. Everyone, every background, faith, color, everyone shared those feelings and was there to show their support to the victims, their families and every other vulnerable person.
I'm proud to live among such awesome people.
Don't allow hate to flourish!

2014 - Fort Ballance, Wellington
This place is truly creepy in the middle of the night, armed with camera, tripod, torches and speedlights.
I came across those photos when browsing through my archives, finalized them and published these three for the first time.
They will also be available as prints, please contact me for details:

... I will have to re-visit, and also to find some other such places...

Early morning (well, for me anyway as I'm more of a night person), view from my backyard.
Sometimes one just needs to look in the right direction at the right time!

Those shots are a bit less than a year old. I found them when browsing through my archives of unpublished images - and found it's time they get out there!
