This is another of my favorite environments - Night! There are different techniques to do night photography, some with short exposure, like the Moon, some with long exposure, like the stars or city lights... Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com Here some long exposures: And here some shorter exposures:

Jan 26, last day...! Garden Magic 2020, Wellington Botanic Garden.
This set is sort of the rest of my images - well, I do have a couple hundreds more. Those images aren't edited to get this color, it's just the surrounding light! All photos taken after 9 pm, way after sunset, no tripod used. Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com Not much time left to check it out, last day is Jan 26! Garden Magic 2020, Wellington Botanic Garden.
This set is decided to red light. And no, those images aren't edited to get this color, it's just the surrounding light! There's lots of stuff to be seen! All photos taken after 9 pm, way after sunset, no tripod used. Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com I nearly missed it this year! Garden Magic 2020, Wellington Botanic Garden.
This time I decided to split my post in different colors themes. The first part is all green. And no, those images aren't edited to get this color! As you can see, I like to concentrate on more on the details than on the whole thing. Lots of stuff to be seen! All photos taken after 9 pm, way after sunset, no tripod used. Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com Some images from around Massey Memorial. This area always reminds me of some scenes of Lord of the Rings, and it's pretty close to Weta Cave.
Facing West, there is some beautiful natural light in the evenings. I think I still have to do some real night shots there. Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com ... Well, it actually depends. Where I come from, it should actually look like this right now. Though, Winter in Europe isn't what it used to be 20-30 years ago. Back when I was young, we often had first snows in October, right through February or even longer.
I literally watched this shifting. Now it starts snowing at the end of November, thaws up around Christmas and stays pretty rainy and muddy all January. Sometimes it picks up in February again, sometimes not. It's generally 5-10 degrees warmer than it should be and the whole "Winter" shifted by 4-6 weeks. And no, I don't believe this is just a natural cycle. Those shifts do happen naturally, but over a period of centuries or longer, not within just 30 years... These, btw, were taken in Wellington, in 2017 and 2018... Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com Nights are beautiful...
This is Wellington seen from oriental Bay and one shot taken in Eastbourne. Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com I posted some images of waves before, under that title. Here some more from this shooting!
Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com There are certainly colors at night... This is Wellington seen from Brooklyn.
Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com Sometimes, out of the blue, I get some new ideas. Then I usually start to play with some images from my archives. Those below are from last weekend, a bit surreal this time.
Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com A couple more side-shots from my surf-and-waves adventure last weekend...
Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com I spent a couple of hours around Wellington South Coast today, despite the rather coldish weather. The sky was mainly slate grey, the ocean a bit more green, when the light hit right. There wasn't really rough water, unless you know some of the spots. This combination allowed for some really nice shots, waves, frozen in time, looking like chunks of glass - Well, "some shots" means, I ended up with 800 images after 3 hours. There'll be some surf shots too, later, as Lyall Bay was pretty crowded with surfers!
Of course my images are available as prints, please contact me if you're interested photos@wernerkaffl.com This is actually a sad photo from last night. Not due to the much lower quality, but due to why this Moon is red. This coloring comes from the smoke, blowing over from the Australian bush-fires. I hope they get those fires under control soon, so there's no more loss of lives and property.
The Moon was barely visible, so I had to use very different camera settings, compared to what I would usually use... That's why it's a bit blurry. Anyway, I thought I just post it like a documentation of the status quo here. |
