I've always been a ' #Trekkie ', seen all seasons and and all episodes as well as the movies.
Since I also make #props , some used for my own photo shoots, I decided to make #Startrek one of my subjects, especially everything #Klingon.
One particular prop caught my attention, the sword of #Kahless , the very first #bat'leth , shown in #DS9, season 4, episode 8. It's pretty different to the later Bat'leths. I realize this is something very Trekkie specific, but whoever tried to take a piece of plastic and turn it into something like a piece of metal, knows what kind of work it involves. Also the amount of work since it's a single piece and made by hand.
A Bat'leth, btw, is not a sword, otherwise it would be called a sword. Like the Egyptian Khopesh, it isn't a sword either (though a real weapon). Klingons do have classic swords, often displayed in the backgrounds, but there's just no better translation for Bat'leth from Klingon to English.
So, here a short series of its making. I did, however, not attempt to add the damascus steel look implied in the original prop, because it's not really well made in the first place (this was 25ish years ago). I also left the Klingon writing off, because it didn't seem realistic for any such sort of ornamentation to be in place, considering the circumstances this weapon has been made in the story.
This particular prop is not for sale, btw, I just made it because I wanted it! But I might be persuaded to make another - won't be cheap though.
